Case Study Microlite S.A. the Pan-Orient Decision

Case Study Microlite S.A.: The Pan-Orient Decision Abstract Microlite S.A. which is located in Brazil was the largest producer of batteries in South America with a mighty 55% share of the Brazilian battery market. Top Management had decided to shut down all but one out of three of the dry cell battery factories in Guarulhos. This opened up the chance for Luiz Pinto, manager of Microlites battery factory in Jaboatà £o, to take over this market share and do further investments in his company. This report is going to describe three basic different proceedings on how he can increase his production. This improvement needs to be done anyway and during this phase we gain time to educate the people better, so that they could run the Pan-Orient machine and that they have a chance to find new jobs if the new machine arrives. The main idea of this phase is to convert the production line from a pure batch oriented to a more JIT process. This would help us to reduce downtime and increase quality, with the longer-term objective that the quality of the batteries increases so much, that we would even be able to eliminate the final electrical output test. However, this goal is very challenging and we might fail. Therefore we created the third phase. The third phase, which would come into play approximately one year after starting phase II, would be dedicated to acquire the Pan-Orient machine, or whatever machine would satisfy our need at that time. With this machine and the improvements we did so far, we would be definitively able to eliminate the battery-testing loop, resulting in a payback of about 2.9 years of this machine. Furthermore, we could fight the increasing competition more efficiently, which we expect in 1995 when the import taxes drop. We think that we found a good mixture of different approaches to overcome the under-capacity of Joboatà £o and are well prepared for the future competitions and demands. Furthermore this approach enables us toShow MoreRelatedCase Study Microlite S.A.: the Pan-Orient Decision1208 Words   |  5 PagesCase Study Microlite S.A.: The Pan-Orient Decision Abstract Microlite S.A. which is located in Brazil was the largest producer of batteries in South America with a mighty 55% share of the Brazilian battery market. Our idea is to implement a three-step solution. The first phase of our solution is concerned with improving the current situation and overcoming the shortfall in a fast and inexpensive way. According to exhibit current situation we can identify two bottlenecks in our current production process, Add Paste to Cup and Inspect Carbon Rods. Those are below the necessary capacity of 540 units/min. To overcome this, we suggest adding one additional machine (Add Paste to Cup) from the factory in Guarulhos to reach a overall capacity of 540 units/min and engage two more persons, one to operate the additional machine and one in the Inspect Carbon Rods-operation (exhibit alternative II). The second phase, after the installation of the machines from Guarulhos, has the goal to improve the current production to an extend that: - Average Downtime shall be reduced by 30% - The quality of the batteries shall be increased with the long-term objective of eliminating the final electrical output test To reach this goal, first all the processes in the plant need to be scrutinized. Second, problems need to be identified, analyzed and solved in the manner of Kaizen. The third objective is, to implement quality control on the running belt. The American Travesty The History And Evidence Behind...

The American Travesty: The History and Evidence behind the Veil of Racism John Locke, a social contract theorist, says that mankind is equal and independent and â€Å"no one ought to harm another of his life, health, liberty or possessions.† When humans enter into a society and form a contract, which leads to government, Locke holds that it is the job of the government to take on the responsibility of protecting the life, liberty and property of its inhabitants; however, the US government failed to protect these rights for Black Americans affected by slavery. Adam Smith, an economist and political theorist, believed that the government should defend and be proprietors of justice. The American government’s purpose, for Smith and Locke, is to promote justice through flourishing ; specifically economic flourishing for Smith. Sadly, history reveals that this was not the circumstance. During the 1700’s, America was one of several countries to embrace chattel slavery. Though slavery is no longer legal in the US, its effects have still ripp led the waters of history. Today America stands on trial. It is guilty of failing to fulfill its role as a government by promoting flourishing. Slavery and segregation in the United States have impeded the economic flourishing amongst Black American communities. History and literature will serve as evidence of this crime in exploring the impact of slavery and segregation in education, familial structure and economics. Before this case is explored, a

Tropical Rainforests vs Tropical Grasslands Free Essays

Discussion Based on the data at Tables 4c. 2 and 4c. 3, it is evident that the tropical rainforest has higher species richness than the tropical grassland ecosystem. We will write a custom essay sample on Tropical Rainforests vs Tropical Grasslands or any similar topic only for you Order Now However, when based in the indices on Diversity, Similarity and Dominance in the tropical grassland and tropical rainforest data, the Simpson Indices favor the data for the tropical rainforest as more diverse than the tropical grassland. The Simpson Indices, as defined in Cuevas et. al (2012), is based on dominance and as the number of dominant species in a community are few, the species has low diversity. The tropical rainforest ecosystem showed a higher index of dominance than the tropical rainforest resulting to the higher values it obtained in the Simpson Indices of Similarity and Evenness. This means that most of the dominant organisms present in the grassland are quite similar and the same due to the higher Simpson Indices on Equitability and Diversity while it is a different case for the forest. First, we need to identify the forest study site as a secondary or primary growth type. From the tables of species richness and number of species seen in an area, we can deduce that the forest study site is a secondary growth forest. Secondary growth forests are products of secondary succession. Secondary succession, as described in Campbell (1996), is the type of succession that occurs when the soil is intact and accommodates a considerable amount of nutrients that can support life. This succession is primarily dependent on the pioneer species (e. g mosses, weeds and etc. ) which tends the soil from its lifeless state. Since pioneer species are mostly small and more adaptable to the harsh environment, we can say that the organisms or individuals present in the forest study site are products of secondary succession. A primary growth tropical rainforest, in turn, has the following characteristics: a barren soil, presence of few organisms that can flourish at extreme conditions (pioneer organisms) and development of communities in a newly formed habitat (Ricklefs, 2008). However, the study site showing the higher species diversity based on Shannon index is the tropical rainforest study site. Comparing data presented at Table 4C. 4, the tropical rainforest showed that even in the degree of randomness of the species, the tropical rainforest showed a wider variety of species compared to the tropical grassland. The Shannon Indices are also dependent on the species richness or the number of species in a given area. (Begon et. al, 2006). Also, some species or individuals are specific in terms of their habitat. This species are sometimes common in a given habitat while rare in another type of habitat. For the common species in the grassland, Imperata cyndrica, Mimosa and Elepantopus are examples of species that are generally common due to their intercepted lengths or relative covers, as seen in Table 4C. 2, which yielded considerable values for it to be classified as common. Grassland individuals form in clusters and are difficult to recognize as individual species, which is why counting them as separate individuals is not practical and difficult. They are counted through the relative cover that their nodules occupy. These individuals may have the following factors that allowed them to develop in their present habitat: good interspecific competitor, highly adaptive to harsh environment and efficient distribution of nutrients and essential compounds to the plant itself. However, some species are rare in grasslands. Examples of the rare species in the grassland ecosystem are Desmodium, Sorghum, and Borreria. Based on the intercepted lengths and % cover of the species in Table 4C. 3, the species are rare due to low values it yielded on the parameters (i. e. intercepted lengths, relative cover and etc. ) and thus, regarding it as rare. This species or individuals may be rare due to low interspecific competition and are not yet adapted to their environment. They may also be dispersed randomly and landed on a grassland ecosystem that offers unfavorable conditions to the growth and development of such plants. Species that are quite common in the tropical rainforest are the Palosanto, Caryota cumingii and Cariota rumphiana. Even if the species or individuals are high in numbers compared to other plant species present in that area, we cannot conclude that these plants are the dominant individuals in the tropical rainforest. There may be certain reasons why these individuals are high in numbers. We should include factors such as reproduction rates or processes since these individuals have different ways of propagating their seeds and also the nutrient availability of the given area in the study site that the individuals really thrive for specific nourishment the place or area provides. Also, the forest has a larger area for growth and development of species and a larger area would signify that it could accommodate more species than the grassland ecosystem. The diversity of individuals in an ecosystem is affected by many factors including the area, nutrient availability and presence of biotic interactions such as competition, mutualism and etc. that would allow species or individuals to grow and develop for a higher diversity in an ecosystem. Begon et. Al, 2006) Conclusion Based on the data gathered and computed, we can say that even if the tropical rainforest species or individuals showed lesser dominance on one another, they exhibited a wider variety of species than the tropical grassland organisms. In the computation for the Shannon’s Indices of Diversity and Evenness, the tropical rainforest is a better candidate for a more diverse and even distribution of species compared to the tropical grassland. The same goes for the Simpson Indices of Dominance, Diversity and Evenness of the tropical rainforest that was more favorable than the tropical grassland. However, presence of viable resources, the area of the ecosystem and specific biotic interactions, such as competition in clumped-distributed plants, greatly affects the diversity of plants since plants tend to disperse and develop in places or areas that have lesser competition and high amount of viable nutrients. Since the tropical rainforest showed most of the characteristics needed for a plant individual to diversify, we can conclude that the tropical rainforest is more diverse and exhibits higher species richness than the tropical grassland ecosystem. However, It is strongly recommended that the increase of transect size or area for research study regarding the diversity and richness of species to validate the errors in this exercise. Impact of Open Data on Business Innovation-Free-Sample for Students

Question: Discuss about the Impact of Open Data on Business Innovation. Answer: Introduction There are various data sources that are available in the internet at present time, which are divided under a number of banners. Broadly, it is of two type, open data source and licensed content. The licensed contents are only available on purchase. Whereas, open data are something for which public do not have to pay (Lindman, Rossi and Tuunainen 2013). These data comes from the sources that are not restricted by copy right and mostly found in various public domains like municipalities, government, international organizations and many more. The typical one among them is the government data which are made available for the public in their websites. These data are used by various business organizations in order to grow their business and have a proper idea of the market. It is not mandatory that the open data will always bring profit the business. Open data have both positive and negative impact (Zuiderwijk and Janssen 2014). Different scholarly works have been conducted which will be r eviewed in this proposal. Project Objective To evaluate academic literatures on impact of open data source on business innovation. To identify the direct or indirect influence of open data sources on business organizations. To distinguish the negative impacts from the positive ones. To identify the disadvantages of using open data in business. Project Scope This part of the project will be focusing on the various business organizations and the impact of the open data source on them. The scope of the project lies in the field of the negative exposure of using the open data source where there is ample opportunity to conduct research. Literature Review Open Government Data Different government took initiatives to provide data to public offering them a better understanding of the scenario. The numbers of these initiatives have grown considerably during 2009-13 from two to over two hundreds. These data that are available in the internet for free not only provided the business organizations the opportunity, but also the ability and motivation to set social and economic value of their organization. These data help in generating new knowledge, value proposition and ideas. It can be summed up as the open data will enable the company to increase he organizational capabilities, which in turn will supplement in idea generation, conversion and diffusion. This will ultimately lead the company to form new social and economic value (Kitchin, R., 2014). Open Innovation strategies Open Government Data initiative is taken up by almost every developed and developing countries in the world. The governments are attracting the businesses to collaborate, participate and re-use their data that are made available by them. Different innovative strategies can be opted with the help of open data for the business growth. The author also posits a set of a set of considerable for developing the open government data portal into an open innovation platform. Businesses are also suggested to create e-service that leverage on the datasets available from the portal (Chan 2013). Demand for Open Government Data in Business Demand for open business data in private sectors or business seems to be the highest according to the Indonesian research team. A significant number of business owners have stated that the available business data on the internet is useful for their business. They show interest in more government data to become publicly available which can significantly fund for their business uptake. But the authenticity of the data reduces if it becomes free. Henceforth, the proprietors of the private businesses do not mind in purchasing the government data if it is made available by the government authority. Data from the education sectors, for instance, the number of graduates in specific fields in certain geographical region is a considered useful data for any business. It makes it easier for the private companies find out the required talents from the market and decide where to invest and where to hire the talents (Indonesia 2013). Economic Benefits of using Open Government Data According to the author, Open government Data plays potential role in innovation of any business. It provides valuable and important data for the new enterprises and business models. Though, the new business models to enter in the market, standard, which future-proof financial investment is absolute necessity. Great economic benefits are expected for the business and startup niches. According to one interviewee of the author, the open government data helped him to increase his sales by 5% (Parycek Hochtl and Ginner 2014). There are other ways of benefiting from the open data that are provided by the government. Those are outsourcing present government procedures for business cycles and as a business network. The business models, which are making use of open government data, are expected to emerge in the field of economy. It can be based on data handling, data integration, data analysis, or even visualization. OGD have the potential to provide job creation or preservation or job creat ing which in term will bring economic growth (Parycek Hochtl and Ginner 2014). Open data opportunity Open data is widely used by various companies as it offers productive growth and economic reform of the company. By extracting the knowledge available in open data in the internet permits the organizations to make better use of the existing data. Proper use of these open data policies can considerably increase any businesss output that would boost the cumulative GDP. It also helps in promoting the theme of the business agendas such as trade, monetary policy, fiscal, employment, finance, infrastructure and fiscal. This in turn offers achievement of the companys growth target. It also opens up the opportunity to create economic and social value of the company. The business can reduce its costs in provision of existing services. New services are enabled by using this and also help in quality improvement. The governance of the company is also being improved using open data (Jetzek, Avital and Bjorn-Andersen 2014). Opportunities for startups The startup based on open data has endless possibilities as stated by the author. The open data can be used as a fuel in innovation in terms of new apps that are based on open data. Necessary commitment and effort towards the work is of absolute necessary for the startup to run in the first days. A structured plan is required to engage with preparing both short and long term targets. Development of apps can provide enormous benefits to citizens, that it will be import to capture how open data can supplement in development in the particular area. The open and closed data can provide opportunity for the startup to consolidate and further growth. The author found gaps in important information where innovation can work with help of open data and presented his idea with an example of parking issue that is found in everyday life. An app based on open data can solve their quarries and problems and the startup can thrive using the open data (Kitsios and Kamariotou 2018). Open data in Business model A number of organizations opened their data for the general public in order to stimulate the innovation of their business. It has resulted into rise of new business models for the organization. According to Janssen and Zuiderwijk (2014), these newly innovated open data business models can be divided into six types, which are interactive app, comparison model, service platform, singlepurpose app, information aggregators and open data repositories. These models have different level of accessibility to the raw data. Social media is used by many business organizations for rating and discussion to get the idea for improving their business. Hybrid models on the other hand have a combined model of value creating where both private and public organizations interact (Janssen and Zuiderwijk 2014). Usage of open data in business Open data is considerably a new thing in the market and very few companies have been using open data as an integral part of the company. Such companies see the open data as a tool to maintain their present situating and help in creating values to the customers. It cannot help directly in financial benefits. Some also considers the utilization of these open data is to improve the quality of the content and making them more comprehensive. Combination of companys data with open data can bring new possibilities for the company. Several motives and opportunities are identified. They can be summed up as follows. The companies can use the open data for creating value, upgrading the quality of their product and services of the business and to improve the quality of the information and knowledge produced from the source. It can also supplement in improving the usability of the data. Open map can be an example where it is used in the visualization of the data. The open data can also contribute in assisting the comprehension of the situation that is in hand. Moreover, these open data is considered as valuable tool for businesss internal use. Refinement of data, service development, information and knowledge based management and decision making are considered as opportunities of using the open data. Moreover, some new and less identified opportunities such outsourcing of the services, business-driven opening of public data can be spotted (Immonen, Palviainen and Ovaska 2014). Impact of open data on business The open data offers various possibilities of imitating as well as learning opportunities for avoiding pitfalls. The biggest opportunity that can be identified is the hybrid model as discussed in earlier review where the models tend to pertain the ways in which companies can constrain portion of their offerings for the purpose of extracting profit. Example can be drawn of the dual-licensing. As the services and data are made free for all, the company doesnt need to purchase the products. This saves a lot of money that can be used in different grounds. On the other hand of the glittery benefits of open data sources, there are also negative impacts of this practice. It possesses a negative impact on the business ideology based on the companys respondents alone. Every business requires investing both time and money in setting up their respective businesses. Open development is something that opposes the profit motives of the company which can be considered as bad for the business (Lindm an 2014). Requirement of open data based business According to Immonen, Palviainen and Ovaska (2014), the open data source creates new opportunities for the business for the factors that provided data, consume data and develop innovative services and applications around the open data. These businesses require separate business models and synergetic environment called ecosystem to support the business applications and services. The actors of these open data ecosystem businesses are differently oriented and the business model elements. Services and business models that are needed in open data based business supposed to be different in order to gain the full advantage of the service (Immonen, Palviainen and Ovaska 2014). Literature Gap Previous studies have focused on the positive aspects of the open data sources. They also discussed about the policies of different countries for the initiative of opening data to the public. Different authors had also covered impacts of this open sources data, but only focusing on the positive approach. Economic benefits, social, and corporate value adding are discussed in dept. However, the negative approaches of this initiative are barely discussed and there are very few literatures available which focuses on this topic. Ample amount of scope is available to carry out a project in finding out the major drawbacks of the open source in the business innovation process. Conclusion It can be concluded from the above discussions of literature reviews that governments of all the developed and developing countries are considering making the data available to the private companies and the public, where the process has already started. Different benefits of these data are discussed and reviewed with the potential outcomes. The impact of these open data sources, both from government and private businesses are discussed. Economic benefits of the usage are also highlighted. The opportunities of the business in using open data can be found in the report with the innovation of the business model that is required in applying it. From the review, the gap can be found in the demerits of the use of open data. There are very few literature which discuss and highlights the demerits of open data which can be considered as a great opportunity for carrying out the research. The Ordeal of Being a Woman When Feminist Ideas Dissipate

One of the most famous and yet the most controversial work of Simone de Beauvoir, The Introduction to the Second Sex offers a lot of food for thoughts. Making the reader aware of the problems that women encounter in the XX century world, Simone de Beauvoir creates a vivid vision of the complexities that women have to fight against, yet clarifies that the issues mentioned above are very complicated.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Ordeal of Being a Woman: When Feminist Ideas Dissipate specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Discussing the problems of sexuality and feminism in her essay, the writer does not offer the solution, yet involves the reader in the process of searching for the answer. Speaking of the author’s position, one should mark that Simone de Beauvoir is obviously concerned with the role of women in the world. As the author explains, the importance of women’s accomplishments is diminished and the world has lost the idea of what makes a woman. â€Å"There is no longer any place for woman as such (6),† Simone de Beauvoir says with Vitter sarcasm. In addition, Simone de Beauvoir makes it obvious that the idea of what a real woman is has been distorted and put completely topsy-turvy. Apparently, the XX century understanding of a woman is narrowed to a purely biological definition with little place for the psychological and emotional issues left. Hence, there is no doubt that the world must not take into account the notorious prejudices concerning women, but to consider the peculiarities of female gender from scientific and psychological viewpoint. According to the author, one of the concerns is that â€Å"speaking of certain women, connoisseurs declare that they are not women, although they are equipped with a uterus like the rest† (6). Therefore, Simone de Beauvoir makes it evident that the idea of what makes a woman is completely confused. However, at ce rtain point, it seems that Simone de Beauvoir exaggerates. The era when women were completely deprived of their rights is long gone, and women have obtained the same privileges as men. Hence, these are only the prejudices that still have their impact on women’s lives.Advertising Looking for essay on gender studies? Let's see if we can help you! One of the most brilliant articles concerning women and their position in the society, Simone de Beauvoir’s work is both insightful and calling for certain actions. Obviously, the work of Simone de Beauvoir offers an extensive and caustic analysis of the role of women in the middle of the XX century. Making a detailed description of the women’s position in the hierarch y of the mid-XX-century society, the author makes it clear that the feministic endeavors to establish equality among men and women are long gone with the ideas and morals of the XIX century. However, it seems that the problem of women’s authority and the role of women in the world can be somewhat reinforced and further feministic moods has been considerably exaggerated and further development of women’s role can be enhanced. To achieve this, Simone de Beauvoir marks, one should consider women not only from the sociological point of view, but also incorporating the impact of the â€Å"physiological, psychological, or economic forces† (Simone de Beauvoir 19). Therefore, the author supposes that further development that will favor women’s role in the modern world is possible. Tregoning Critical Thinking Essay

Tregoning Critical Thinking Essay Tregoning Critical Thinking Essay Kiondra Lee MGT/350 April 22, 2013 Teri Tregoning Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. (National council, 1987) Thinking Critically When it comes to thinking critical we have many different levels. Most of the thing we do throughout our lives such as walking, and blinking, we don’t have to do much think about, it just something that happens naturally, but there are things that require more thought, for instance deciding the right diet, or choosing the best clothing for a special occasion. Some levels of thinking can be higher which include our critical thinking can be higher which include our critical thinking abilities. A lot of people have noted that critical thinking is more of a skill then a process and consists of mainly evaluating arguments. Critical thinking is a mental activity of individuals evaluating arguments or propositions and making the proper judgments that can help the development of beliefs and actions taken. It has been found the experts from economy and education nominated critical thinking as the most important skill in knowledge management (Astleitner, 2002) It is very important that you are knowledgeable about making the right decision before making a decision, because it usually requires critical thinking to make the right decision. Decision can be very simple, from deciding where you want to live. It is very complex like deciding how to build your house. Some decisions can be very critical, especially if it involves a business. It is very important that managers take responsibility for their actions and learn to make the right decisions for the company sake. Also when making a decision you have to remember that taking a long time to make a simple decision and making a complex decision to fast can have drastic effects on anything. Critical thinkers have the ability to think on a much higher level. The process of a individual thinking critically is required to go about decisions and ideas that will help provide for a better life for ourselves and others around us. A lot of people take thinking for granted, but in order to develop as a critical thinker, we have to open ourselves to recognizing the strengths and weakness of our own thinking. Higher thinking comes into play when people are choosing a presidential candidate, being on stand for jury duty for a murder trail, or determining the effects of global warning. As a critical thinker one becomes a more responsible, contributing member of society (Schafersman, S.D., 1991). In order to be out on the road of being critical thinkers, we must acquire the attributes of a critical thinker and learn to be open -minded and recognize our own ignorance. Critical Thinking Experience Being the manager at my job, I was face with a problem last week. One of my employees came into work reeking of alcohol. I didn’t know if he was drinking before he got to work or the night before. I didn’t want to send him home because Fridays are usual super busy, and he was doing his work as usual nothing seem wrong, just the smell. You can smell the alcohol from a mile away. I am not the type of person to judge, so I pulled him to the side and ask him what happen? He explained that he was going through something last night and had a couple of drinks. I didn’t know what to say at that moment, so I sent him back to work and watched him very closely. Realizing that the store would be opening in just about 30mins I was forced to make a decision. I thought should I keep him there and risk breaking our policy because I need the help, or

Critically evaluate the use of text matching software as an aid to Essay

Critically evaluate the use of text matching software as an aid to developing good scholarship practice - Essay Example The software used to identify data from various sources is the Text Matching Software. The software identifies lines of the paragraphs originating from different sources. This software is easy to install and can identify the matching text from different sources in a very short period. The software can be used in all operating systems by Microsoft. Another advantage of the software is that it can identify missing data on a document One can manage to differentiate columns that are up to date and those which are not updated. The software can also be used to make comparisons of different spreadsheet originating from different sources. Universities and colleges have been discouraging plagiarism among students since it deteriorates learning practice and it has been considered as an offence. Therefore, software has been developed to detect cheating students who are unduly rewarded on their assignments, which is not their own work (Sutherland-Smith, 2008). The software has enabled universiti es and other institutions of higher learning to identify plagiarism and award students fairly at the same time punish those caught cheating. The invention of the software has encouraged the student to do their own original work, and this has improved the scholarly system in colleges and universities. The school’s administration attempted to research on estimates of students being prone to plagiarism. However, their estimates did not have a correct tool to verify whether their estimates were accurate or not. Before the software was invented, most plagiarism was not detected the reason being there were no accurate means of identifying plagiarism. University assignments submitted by student groups have also been a significant challenge because the data have also been found to be plagiarized. One of the categories is that undergraduate are ignorant and inexperienced or rather lack awareness of the repercussions they are likely to face. It is advisable that lectures should identif y students who are beginning their studies and those who are on the verge of completing their career (MacDonald & Carroll 2006, p.233). Research records, which have been kept for five years, have proved that the work handed in by second year students of the business school from the university have been identified with a lot of plagiarism cases. The person in charge of this research was a tutor and an assessor of the students. The research, which was to be carried out by the students, was to come up with a business plan that entailed the research of marketing and financial plans and conditions. The lecturer can hand in the assignment to his or her students and encourage them to use all available sources they can find including the internet. After the assignment has been submitted, the lecturer is supposed to scrutinize the assignment and identify any cases of cheating and plagiarism present. He is supposed to identify any data that are matched to that of the internet. After the stude nts have received the results, they should make corrections in the script according to the specified guidelines recommended by the lecturer and remove any mistakes that may be present. The student is then required to submit the final script, having made the necessary corrections. The lecturer is supposed to quote to the students the reference source of the data so as to verify if it was harmless or it was a serious case of plagiarism (Walker 2010, p.41). The lecturer then issues an indicator of the extent of plagiarism for instance the scripts issued, with more than 20% may be described as severely plagiarized, and those with less than 20% can be termed as less plagiarized. There are instances where the data can be found to contain one or two lines of plagiarism, and in this case it may not be recorded, and it is assumed as ignorance of the student. However, the grading of the extent of

Literature review (plz read the instruction) Essay

Literature review (plz read the instruction) - Essay Example The literature review of this study would mainly focus on the strategic planning practice on a micro activities level and it requires the organization to put in place a number of initiatives such as design, planning and implementation strategies. Critics points out that the strategic environment demands attention to be paid to such variables as internal quality management, Human Resource Management (HRM), internal value chain analysis, supply chain management, product portfolio development, product & marketing mix, market segmentation, event life cycle management, strategic product/customer/market orientation, a sound communication strategy and above all a competitor orientation strategy. Butler (2001) pointed that a perceptual mapping process to achieve strategic and organizational goals is nothing new in the micro level firm’s own operational environment. Thus the current dichotomy between strategic competitive environment and strategic operational environment is based on the organizational outcomes. The micro level activities of the firm are subject to a greater amount of competitive pressure than those firms which exclusively produce in order to sell in the domestic market or export physically. Thus the competitor orientation strategy of the micro level firm is determined by the level of internal and external competition. How best to meet this competitive pressure depends on the micro level firm’s ability to absorb excess demand through capacity and value creation. Internal value chain management process of the firm decisively places some limitations on its ability to meet this extra demand. Therefore it’s the pricing policy, HRM and internal management culture that ultimately enable the firm to meet this demand successfully. If the attendant VRIO (value, rarity, inimitability and organization) framework is sound enough to enable the management of the company to withstand pressure and devise

The Forbidden Paw :: Creative Writing Examples

The Forbidden Paw Once, a very long time ago there was a crazy family that decided to go on vacation to Manakesh, Morocco. "What a dump! Why would Princess Grace live in a place like this?", the father asked in a curious way. "Dad, that’s Monaco.", the daughter replied with quite an annoyed tone to her voice. The family continued walking through the market, they saw a contortionist doing his acrobatic thing. "I can do that, but I don’t want to.", replied the misfit son. (Who was obviously lying out his @#$!) At the next vendor, the crazy dad saw a monkey’s paw, and he decided that he just had to have it. The vendor of that booth told him that it granted four wishes to whoever owns it. "Sir, I must strongly advise you. Do not purchase this. Behind every wish lurks grave misfortune. I myself, was once president of Algeria.", warned the aging old man. "Come on, pal, I don’t want to hear your life story. Paw me!", was all that the father had to say to him. The man’s wife was not pleased by his senseless and careless purchase. The wife asked where he had gotten that ugly thing. His reply was straightforward, "Why, at that shop right over†¦there?" (But all that was left was a gust of wind) The husband gasped and said, "Oh, no, wait, it was over there." As he pointed to the shop. And as the family was leaving, all they could hear was the vendor saying, "You’ll be sorry!" At home, the paw sat on the coffee table. The son wanted to wish for x-ray specs that really work. But the daughter decided she would rather wish for peace on earth. While they were arguing, the 2-year-old baby grabbed the paw and made her wish. A limo pulled up outside, and the father was very pleased, "Good Baby!" The driver brought her a shiny pacifier, then sped off. "Oh, MAN!", was all that the dad could say. The son decided he had waited long enough, and so he wished for the family to be rich and famous. The father agreed, "Now you’re talking!" Immediately, they were showered with money. The dad took the family to the fanciest restaurant in town, the Gilded Truffle. The maitre’ d showed them to their table†¦ As the family was enjoying dinner, the wife piped up and said that maybe fame and fortune wasn’t as bad as they say.

Bank holiday

I have read the story under the title â€Å"Bank Holiday† by Katherine Mansfield. Speaking about the author, I should say that Katherine Mansfield was born In New Zealand In 1888. Katherine Is a New Zealand writer and she Is known by her short stories which deal with human nature and psychology. This Is a philosophical story for a discerning reader who has to read between the lines.Giving the reader a chance to see somebody else s inner life, presented directly and indirectly, the author at the same time does not provide any answers to the questions that one asks himself. The author seems to grant the reader a chance to take leave to doubt and disagree with what he concludes and infers. Being imposing, she's at the same time pretty unobtrusive which definitely, makes a merit of the story. The story under consideration is narration interlaced with descriptive passages. This story is ironical when the author shows regret, displeasure and annoyance of the situation. The author sh ows us Inconsistence way of life different representatives of social classes. In this story details play the main role, the Ironical description of their clothes, the old Oman the author reserved detachment and metaphor, he compares old women with old dusty pin-cushions. Through the choice of the words, the author uses for main characters' description, we can easily understand the author's attitude to them. The author criticizes them. The plot of the short story relies on the internal conflict between the crowd and society. The action of the story occurred in the street during celebrating the holiday. The story under analysis is a third-person narrative. The story is about a festival, which involves a big crowd of People from all different social lasses, to spend a Good time together and enjoy themselves. The main problem that story touches upon Is about people's unwillingness to improve their life, to achieve something better. The character of the story Is a middle-class crowd, miser able people described with bitterness who haven achieve anything but remained the past old times. There Is no action and the events are trivial but we understand the unhappiness of the existence of the crowd. On the one hand their life is dynamic but it's concentrated on trivial events, nothing important, all these people remained in the past. This life is concentrating on some talking, that it's nothing important. The author is disguised. The crowd is presented by different people, but all of them are similar in their world view, besides poor clothes they are illiterate. The way people spill the lemonade they spill their lives. The author addresses to the reader â€Å"Look out! Don't spill your own lives†. She described people without any future. The story falls into three logically connected parts. The first part of the story is taken up the introduction of the crowd, on the one hand they are different people, but all of them haven't any future. The story presents some pictur es and the flirts of them Is crowd, people who are quite and who understanding the music . Then It presents children. They might have had something better but they haven't an opportunity to develop In such society. There a lot of detachments, so the author underlines all the details not to miss anything. Alliteration in the sentence: and is dissolved, and the crowd scatters, mobbing slowly up the hill† produces affect on the reader. The author uses a lot of verbs: â€Å"dodging, nudging, talking†¦ † To show the aggressiveness of the situation. The subject of the depiction in the second part is a fair, during which people sell ugly things and it metaphorically shows. This fact proves the ugliness of the crowd's existence The story reaches the climax by gradation. The crowd rise top on the hill and it seems that something must change but everything remains the same and they continue to live a useless life. The idea of the text can be state as follows: the author is tr ying to convince the reader that people must not waste their life. Every person has a chance for a better life, but he does it better by himself.

Many contemporary couples have problems in their houses because they were not prepared to get married. Furthermore, couples who were prepared have problems. White Rabbits Essay

White Rabbits Essay White Rabbits Essay The Rabbits NotesJames Grafton Goes from Belonging (i.e. connection to the land)- Not Belonging ( rejection from theland ), due to conflict of societies. The undertone of this novel pertains to the belonging toa specific group or culture– and the novel metaphorically represents the possums asaborigines, and the white settlers - cleverly tying in thecontemporary issue of Australia’sinequality. Idependent research Study (Proposal) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words

Idependent research Study (Proposal) - Essay Example However, there is increasing evidence that consumers are affected more strongly by their interaction with staff members within the hotel industry than through their exposure to promotional marketing and make future purchasing decisions based on this previous experience within the hotel brand. Why is this of interest to today’s marketers? Employees are only going to provide superior service when they are content with their environment. If the hotel is structured improperly or does not improve the morale of workers, they are likely not going to be as devoted to their job role tasks in the degree expected by corporate policy. Employee satisfaction would seem to be of high concern to the hotel industry due to the fact that consumers often come face-to-face with employees during a periodic or long-term stay in the hotel brand. When customers reflect on their visit, they conduct what is referred to in marketing as a post-purchase evaluation. In this evaluation, they are likely to assess not only the tangible factors such as aesthetic appeal or the comfort of the mattress, they are going to consider how they interacted and were treated by the service staff. Specific individuals will likely be remembered over others based on the level of quality of this interaction. Post- purchase evaluation is part of the general consumer profile after making a purchase, therefore making a good impression the first time is a key business success strategy for positive service delivery. This independent research project explores the relation of employee satisfaction on overall service delivery, specifically attempting to discover how reduced satisfaction can adversely impact the consumers’ perception of quality and value. In what ways does reduced employee satisfaction cause future sales problems with hotel brands in achieving success in positive service delivery. To discover: In what ways does reduced employee satisfaction impact service delivery in the

Financial Crisis Assignment Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Financial Crisis Assignment - Case Study Example Its effects were far reached and almost everyone on the globe was impacted by it on some level. Those who were closer to financial markets and deeply involved in the investment business faced greater impacts and are still incurring huge losses. This crisis raised questions that pointed fingers on the functioning of the global financial markets. The liquidity crisis was triggered by a bunch of policies that were implemented by the United States banking system to promote massive investment and growth in the economy. Nevertheless, what started as an attempt to increase consumer spending and encourage investor confidence soon turned out to be the underlying weakness in the financial system. The imbalance in the global economy became too massive for any individual government to control and with the passage of time it only worsened. A critical part was played by the developed economies whose excessively loose monetary policies during the early part of this decade contributed in widening th e gap between the West and the East. It is very interesting to know that the budget deficit of the United States was at an all time high during 2006-2007, while on the other hand huge surpluses were being recorded in Asia, particularly China and other oil exporting countries of Middle East. If we look at figures they reveal a clearer picture, the current account balance as a percent of GDP for US was -4.7%, while for China, Saudi Arabia, Russia and UAE was 10%, 28.9%, 6.1% and 15.8% respectively. Analyzing the figures it clarifies that even after the West was generating billions of dollars in revenue, the global net flow was concentrated towards the Eastern giants as they were becoming powerful by the day. This can be strongly attributed to the fact that the gap between the saving-investment function was extensive and this gap was only widening with time since developing countries started relying more heavily on developed economies to provide for their development expenditures. Ther e were some direct impacts of these huge cross-border financial flows on the financial intermediation process. (Mohan) One of the major causes of the crisis is attributed to the sub-prime lending in the housing industry in America. In order to increase the share several banks gave loans to individuals who were doubtful of paying back their installments in the future. Nevertheless, since in the short run it would show an artificial boast in the economy along with a positive growth of the company many bankers and financial institutions to fulfill their personal interest gave top notch credit ratings to doubtful individuals. This resulted in a massive spending in the housing sector even though it was clear this was only short-lived. Banks gave loans on negligible interest rates at times even below 1%, showing the extent of how eager they were to raise their customer base. The financial sector was involved in a personal struggle to widen its customer base. Derivates were used to inject huge sums of money from the investors in the market, but these derivatives were passed on to other investors and so on. The original derivative holder had no idea who was in possession of his derivative as it was a long chain that no one was aware of. The derivative market surpassed the whole US GDP number and according to estimates in 2010 the US GDP stood at $14 trillion dollars compared to the $300 trillion derivative market. It is apparent that the market was financially diluted and

International Trade and Poverty Reduction in Africa-An Evaluation Term Paper

International Trade and Poverty Reduction in Africa-An Evaluation - Term Paper Example Ng and Yeats (1996) showed that Sub Saharan Africa showed very poor performance in terms of global exports and the share of exports in world trade had been falling here since the 1950s. The authors argue the protectionist policies of the government here leading to the marginalization of the region from world trade and hence it remained non-competitive. The empirical analysis by the authors showed that the trade preferences of OECD provided a competitive advantage for Africa while the internal protectionist policies significantly contributed to the decline of the export performance here. The study hence demands the need for more liberalized trade policies in this region which are needed to reduce poverty in Sub Saharan Africa. Anderson et al showed that trade liberalization can result in poverty reduction in Sub Saharan Africa through increasing farm employment and output, the real value of agricultural and food exports, the real returns to farm land and unskilled labor, and real net farm incomes. It also results in increased income growth, which is greater than for other developing nations and developed nations as shown by the authors in spite of some terms of trade losses. Hence, the authors demanded the need for more trade openness in the region as a policy measure to reduce poverty. Similarly, Tuppy argued that in Sub Saharan Africa trade liberalization can produce welfare gains while this, in turn, will lead to reduced poverty only if there are drastic changes in the economic and political circumstances.

A View From A Bridge Coursework Essay Example for Free

A View From A Bridge Coursework Essay Explore the dramatic use of Alfieri in A view from the Bridge. What is his dramatic significance in the play? Arthur Miller was an American playwright, essayist and author. He was born in New York City on October 17th 1915. He lived with his mother and father, who were Jewish, in New York City. His father was a womens clothing manufacturer while his mother was a schoolteacher. The family were rich until the stock market crash of 1929 when they lost most of their money. They were then forced to move into Brooklyn, a very poor district where a lot of legal and illegal immigrants lived and where a lot of crime would happen. Miller used to do a variety of jobs so that his parents could afford to send him to college. In 1947 Miller wrote his first play, All My Sons which won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. Two of his most well-known plays are The Crucible and Death of a Salesman. The play I will be covering is called A view from the Bridge which was written in 1955. The idea behind it was influenced by a story Miller heard while he was working on the docks. A view from the Bridge is set in Brooklyn, following the life of the main character Eddie Carbone who was the husband to Beatrice and uncle to Catherine. When Beatrices cousins, Rodolfo and Marco, arrived in Brooklyn as illegal immigrants from Italy; this was when the trouble started. The other main character was Alfieri; he was a narrator, telling the story of Eddie Carbones life. The reason for the play having the name A view from the Bridge was because it contained the good and the bad. Eddie was jealous of Rodolfo and Catherine as he was trying to sabotage their ideas of marriage whilst Catherine and Rodolfo wanted to get married because they loved each other. Alfieri was standing on the bridge looking over, watching the argument flare out until its disastrous conclusion, ending in death. Miller started the play with Alfieri, the narrator. This was because of Alfieris importance. Theoretically, Alfieri was telling a story that had already happened to the audience. It was important to let the audience know that this story was a circular plot. Alfieri started the play with his first soliloquy. He was walking to his office when he saw a couple of long shore men. You wouldnt have known it but something amusing has just happened. See how uneasily they nod to me? Thats because I am a lawyer were only thought of in connection with disasters and theyd rather not get too close. Here Alfieri showed that he was observant because he realized what had happened even though nobody else did. He also told the audience who he was; he was a lawyer so this must mean that he was a very intelligent man. Additionally, he commented on how people treated him because of his job. You only go to lawyers if something bad has happened e. g. murder or family rows. The long shore men nodded to him uneasily which suggests that they distrusted him. A lawyer means the law Here Alfieri has introduced the first main theme in the play: Law. I am inclined to notice the ruins of in things, perhaps because I was born in Italy. Alfieri told the audience that he was observant. He noticed the bad things that maybe others cold not see. He said it was because he was born in Italy. From this we can assume that Italy was a very poor place which meant that Alfieri was used to seeing the bad things because of his life in Italy, which also means that life in Brooklyn was similar to yet better than Italy, so many more Italians would already be in Brooklyn or wanting to move to there. Frankie Yale himself was cut precisely in half by a machine gun on the corner of Union Street Alfieri was mentioning past events, this sentence also builds tension, it explained that Brooklyn was a very poor district where crime was not unusual. He then went on to say: Oh, there were many here who were justly shot by unjust men. This suggests that a lot of dishonest men were rightfully killed; however, the killers were dishonest themselves so the killers had no right to kill the other person. Justice is very important here. This sentence brings in the second main theme to the play: Justice. The whole play is going to be revolving around the idea of law and justice. This is the slum that faces the bay on the seaward side of Brooklyn Bridge. This is the gullet of New York swallowing the tonnage of the world Now we settle for half, and I like it better. I no longer keep a pistol in my filling cabinet. Here Alfieri was setting the scene, describing how horrible Brooklyn was, it was the lowest of the low, it was making New York look like a bad place, the use of personification is very effective because it referred to Brooklyn as the throat of New York where all the atrocious things in the world happened. Alfieri settled for half, as when he first arrived in Brooklyn, there was a lot of crime, but now there was only half of what it used to be, which was an improvement. And my practice is entirely unromantic people in this neighborhood lack elegance and glamour and yet every year there is still a case, and as the parties tell me what the trouble is, the flat air in my office suddenly washes in with the green scent of the sea, the dust in this air is blown away Alfieri had mentioned that usually his job was boring and mundane where nothing exciting happened. He had to deal with petty family complaints. However, he did get cases which were quite unlike his normal day to day complaints. As he mentioned this fact we could see that the play was going to involve one of those unusual complaints.

The Applications Of Content Marketing Marketing Essay

The Applications Of Content Marketing Marketing Essay Several companies use content marketing channels to have consumers like the content, comment on the content, and share the content. With its fairly new existence, companies are just now starting to take advantage of its application. However, many companies have been extremely successful with its use. With the expansion of social media, companies have had great success on websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to market their products content. A few companies that have had success with content marketing include Instagram, American Express, and Mint. The expansion of social media marketing is helping expand content marketing as well. Websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram all provide a simple and affordable method of marketing content. Facebook, probably the most used channel, allows businesses to post information via wall posts, pictures, or videos on a businesss page for the world to see. This allows users to get the information about products and from there, they can share it with other users on Facebooks website. Next is Twitter. Twitter allows businesses to post a tweet about their products that will appear on their followers timeline. From there, their followers can retweet the message and allow other users to view it who follow them. Many businesses use Twitter to keep their customers informed about the products they offer and products they will soon offer. Instagram is a photo-sharing program and social media website that allows users to take a picture and share it with virtually the world. The service is free allowing many consumers as well as businesses to take advantage of its service. Businesses are now using Instagram for content marketing purposes. A successful lesson that can be learned from Instagram is that it has no direct target market. Anyone who takes a picture and uploads it is a great target for the company. This allows Instagram to have a diverse consumer base for different purposes. Next, this gives businesses an advantage because it allows consumers to see what businesses post about the content of their products. For content marketing purposes, Instagrams blog serves as a platform for users to tell their stories via images. Rather than directly promoting itself, Instagram gives users the power to share themselves via the Instagram product (Cohen, 2012). Next, American Express has expanded its content marketing strategies with the creation of OpenForum.com (Snow, 2011). Mint is considered a market leader in online personal finance. It has been very successful with its content marketing strategies. Mints blog created a blog entitled MintLife that was a core part of the companys operation. Mint dedicated significant resources to its blog, including a full time editorial staff and a slew of freelance contributors, unlike other companies that might rarely update their blogs or social media webpages. It used social news sites like Reddit and Digg, and Mint began to build their consumer base when their consumers began to see reliable and interesting content on the sites. The readers of the site began to become customers of Mint and started to promote Mints products on personal social media pages such as Facebook and Twitter. Kraft Foods has also been very successful in content marketing. Their focus is not on marketing their products; however, it is on bettering their current customers and subscribers lives and maintaining good customer relationship management. An example of their content marketing strategy is kraftrecipes.com that has been online since 1992. Kraftrecipes.com offers recipes to its subscribers. They also have expanded to using YouTube as well as mobile apps and social media sites. In order to measure their content marketing success, Kraft measures its traffic and engagement on different channels and sites (Gutman, Kraft Foods Dishes Out Its Recipe for Successful Content Marketing, 2012). According to Julie Fleischer, Director of Content Strategy Integration at Kraft Foods, The ROI on our Content Marketing work is among the highest of all of our marketing efforts. Feminist Criticism Essay -- Feminism Female Essays

Feminist Criticism Contemporary feminist criticism focuses on various specified topics such as women’s biographical writings, lesbian and literature, and the role of film and the media in portraying feminine gender. It is no longer easily separated into categorical goals by nationalities or land boundaries. Instead, feminist criticism is now characterized according to whether the category of "woman" is the major focus, or whether gender identity is defined by sexual and other identities as well. These other differences include, but are not limited to, cultural identities as a woman, lesbian writings, sexual preference, and religious differences. Most feminist critics today stress the fact that while all women are female, they are much more than that. Each woman’s goals and problems make them who they are by creating a unique identity. The understanding of woman not as a single group has led modern feminist critics to advocate personal and autobiographical criticism. It has also fostered contemporary gender criticism. Gender critics explore different categories of gender and sexuality. Gender criticism does not only focus on women’s gender and sexuality, but also includes male gender issues. Gender criticism began solely as feminist criticism, and now the two are still overlapped. Elaine Tuttle Hansen has applied feminist criticism in her analysis of "The Miller’s Tale" in a segment of the chapter "Women as the Same" from the book Chaucer and the Fictions of Gender. While earlier critics have focused on the humorous side of what they consider an innocent prank, Hansen focuses on Alisoun’s escape from punishment. At the same time she recognizes that it was only by accident that Nicholas intervened to receive the punish... ...astly, I found reference to Alisoun being objectified as something only to look at in two separate, yet closely related examples. First, in lines 3247-3248 of her portrait, the Miller states that "She was ful more blisful on to see / Than is the newe pere-jonntte tree." Secondly, Absolon refers to Alisoun’s objectification by stating "to loke on hir him thoughte a merye lyf" (3344). Valued objects are often set away from "normal" areas to look upon for enjoyment purposes. And happiness is sometimes thought to be achieved through viewing a thing of beauty; this is how these men viewed Alisoun. In conclusion, it is clear to see through these examples how Chaucer used animal characteristics to objectify Alisoun. Furthermore, I feel that Hansen’s views on "The Miller’s Tale" were correct and justified. Overall, I feel that the views expressed by Hansen are enlightening.
